perfection was never the goal

changing my perspective

This is going to be awkward since it’s my first post on my new email newsletter. But I’m going to do it anyway, I’ll look back and cringe I guess.

For the past few months, I’ve been making MAJOR life changes. Like more than I was planning, but all totally worth it.

I gradually transformed my diet which made me much healthier as a result. I had the misconception that I wouldn’t be able to lose weight unless I could get 10K+ steps per day. I was determined to lose weight without quitting sugar — I loved ice cream too much.

But guess what? I have pretty much eliminated added sugars from my diet. We might have a small amount of maple syrup now and then, but it’s drastically reduced from where I was a few months ago.

At first, I had withdrawal symptoms. I was anxious, I was irritable. I googled if it was normal to feel withdrawal after “quitting sugar”. If there’s one thing I noticed from this diet changes, is that Google results weren’t giving me the full picture. So I decided to just learn through trial and error.

After a few weeks, the nightly cravings went away. Not only had I cut out sugar, but I cut out dairy too. Then in September I came across a book called How Not to Die* (affiliate link) which inspired me to pursue a primarily plant-based diet. It’s a work in progress, but I keep reminding myself, “perfection is not the goal”!

This is been in addition to other life changes too — setting better boundaries with family, doing a major house declutter, and deciding to homeschool my son. It’s been challenging, but I feel like we’re moving in the right direction!
